Ducks seem to stick it out up here all year round. You can almost always find these guys bobbing along the river near our house somewhere if you keep an eye out for them.

Inspired by my “Sketching in Nature” classmates, I am starting an ongoing project, documenting the forest area along the North Branch of the Chicago River. My goal is to record the changes in the trees and plants of the area over the course of a year. I’ve already learned something by just wandering around and starting to pay attention. There’s a lot of green out there — even in January!
